The contract: Off-road Haulage, Materials Handing and Site Services

Bis provides load, haul and site services to Anglo American’s Capcoal mine site, including:

  • Rejects haulage
  • Road maintenance
  • Dust mitigation and ROM equipment feed
  • Haulage of topsoil, rock and ROM coal

A tailored high payload equipment solution was developed specifically for the rejects haulage component of the contract and contributes to improved safety, sustainability and productivity outcomes for Anglo American through reductions in the total equipment required, vehicle movements as well as fuel consumption.

The Capcoal contract is the latest in an ongoing relationship between Anglo American and Bis that spans more than 20 years.

Mining operations

Capcoal is a joint venture between Mitsui Coal Holdings and Anglo American who is the operator of the mine.

The combined open cut and underground operation comprises two underground mines (Grasstree and Aquila) and two open cut mines (Lake Lindsay and Oak Park) that produce than 8 Mtpa of prime quality hard coking and pulverized coal injection (PCI) coal for export steel markets.
